9 DO’S IF FIRE CAUGHT YOU
Fire is a very useful phenomenon as it can be used in cooking food, molding materials into a product, convert liquids into steam, performing different physical and chemical reactions. It can also be used in different industrial processes which are also for the sake of human beings. So we cannot live without all those things which are made by fire but fire at the same time is very dangerous. To combat all risks we should know what to do if fire caught us.
- SUPPRESS FIRE TRIANGLE
Fire is the result of the three-part formula which is called Fire Triangle. These three things are Oxygen, fuel, and heat. Oxygen is from the air, fuel is anything that can burn and heat can burn fuel. Try not to place these three things together.
The basic strategy for extinguishing a fire is to suppress it by ensuring that it cannot have access to oxygen, to cool it with a liquid such as water which reduces the heat, or finally to remove the fuel or oxygen source, effectively removing one of the three elements of fire.
- NEVER INHALE SMOKE
Death can be the most serious consequence of fire burn. If a burned person inhales the smoke, it makes it difficult for him to breathe. Not only the burned person but also people near the fire area die due to the inhalation of smoke as a result of the fire.
- SHOULD HAVE AN ESCAPE PLAN
Sometimes people near fire area could not escape because of thick fire smoke they could not even follow the escape plan route. Proper training should be provided to employees as well as family members. Try to remember the number of steps and the direction in the escape plan.
- REMEMBER EMERGENCY NUMBER
Each and every person in the factory, office, shop, house, should remember Fire brigade
emergency number.
- If the fire catches you, never run.
- STOP DROP ROLL
The most effective strategy is to stop, drop and roll
If your clothes do ever catch fire always remember STOP, DROP & ROLL
STOP
Running can make things worst as the fire will find more oxygen and fire gets bigger
DROP
Drop on the ground, lay flat with your legs out straight and cover your eyes and mouth with your hands
ROLL
Rollover again and again back and forth until the flames are out
- COVER YOURSELF WITH BLANKET
Blankets are inflammable safety products that can extinguish fire. They smoother fires and do not allow any oxygen to come in to fuel the flames. Due to its simplicity, a fire blanket may be more helpful for someone who is inexperienced with fire extinguishers.
- USE OF FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Make use of carbon dioxide fire extinguishers. Most of the factories, shops, malls, offices and other public places have fire extinguishers. But unfortunately, NO ONE CONSIDERS TO TRAIN THEIR STAFF ON HOW TO USE THESE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
- USE OF WATER AS FIRE EXTINGUISHER
Water can also be used as a fire extinguisher. If your clothes catch fire look at the closest water supply. Water has 2 roles as the water touches fire water turns into water vapors and these water vapors replace the oxygen through which fire dies. Water vapors on the other hand Water vapors absorb heat and cool down the air.
