FIRE SAFETY TIPS FOR BUILDINGS

REASON WHICH CAUSES IGNITION:

Reasons which cause fire ignition are

NATURAL PHENOMENA: Ignition caused by natural phenomena like earthquakes, heavy rain, volcano fire, etc.

HUMAN CARELESSNESS: Human carelessness is a major cause of fire mishap. Careless use of fireworks, matches, candles, cigarettes, cooking, etc can result in a devastating fire.

TECHNOLOGICAL FAILURE: The serious places like plant rooms, boiler houses, generators room, or large kitchens where the risk of ignition is high should design and installed aside so that no one can reach there easily because carelessness near these sensitive dangerous areas can cause a big loss. These places must need attention to check and replace if needed from time to time to minimize any kind of risk

FIRE PRECAUTIONS IN BUILDING

 Every builder or management should design and manage a building in such a way that eliminates the risk of ignition. Some fire precautions in the building are discussed below.

•             All the ignition sources should be designed properly

•             Fire safety equipment like a fire extinguisher, fire and smoke alarms, etc should be placed everywhere according to the need of the building

•             Sufficient means of escape are provided in the building

•             The way to exit doors are clearly outlined

•             Avoid open flames and manage the smoking materials wisely

•             Flammable liquid and gases must store safely

•             Use electrical equipment properly and  major electrical equipment are just used by the experts

•             Exhaust must be installed in commercial kitchens

•             Smoke detection system must b installed

•             Smoke suppression system should be maintained properly

•             Fire drills should conduct regularly

•             Use fire retardant equipment in interiors

Fire safety education is very important because all preventions and protection rely on how much people know about fire and its dangerous effects. These types of programs educate the people about the correct danger of fire and the way to extinguish it. Building occupants learn the plan of evacuation routes, use of correct fire extinguisher according to the need, and continue practicing fire plan. Through these educational programs, people get prepared to deal with any fire hazard which can minimize the loss

FIRE PROTECTION IF FIRE CAUGHT THE BUILDING

Preventing a fire from occurring may be the best way to ensure safety against fire but what if the fire still occurs. These are the following ways to protect yourself against the fire.

•             STAY CALM:

 First and foremost thing to do when a fire erupts is to keep your calm. Losing patience or panicking might cause you to mishandle the situation or may lead to any bigger problem

•             DO NOT  IGNORE FIRE ALARM

The alarm might be false but your first instinct must be to grab your essentials and inform people around you. You car keys, wallet, and cell.phone would be the only things you may need in this emergency situation

•             STAY LOW:

 Incase of Smoke staying low and protecting yourself is the most sensible thing to do. Extinguishing fire, if you are not a professional can be dangerous for you and others as well.

•             TOUCH THE DOOR CAREFULLY:

In case of fire or smoke in the building, while you are behind the door, make sure to stay low and check the smoke by opening the door slightly. In case there is smoke slam the door tightly. Keep windows and other doors in the room, if any, closed as well.

•             USE FIRE EXITS:

 While escaping the building, make sure there is no smoke or fire nearby. Use emergency stairs or fire exit for escape anD do not use the elevators.

•             KEEP THE DOOR CLOSE WHILE ESCAPING:

While escaping keep the doors closed to confine the fire and reduce the destruction. Stay calm but move fast and away from buildings, trees, or power lines to open areas.

•             CALL EMERGENCY NUMBER:

If you are trapped in the room while a fire occurs. Make sure to close the doors, windows and seal the cracks in between to keep fore away from you. If you have a phone with you, call the emergency number for help. Show the help signals from the window to outside, but DO NOT break the glass until necessary.

•             USE CHAIR OR DRAW TO BRAEK WINDOW:

 If needed to break the window using either a chair or drawer or any other small object and cover the window sill with a bedsheet to protect yourself from the broken pieces of glass

•             COVER NOSE AND MOUTH:

In case you are caught in the smoke keep your nose and mouth covered and stay as low as 30 inches above the ground but do not crawl as gases may accumulate on the floor If moving through the fire, keep your movements calm but quick and your head and hair covered. Keep your eyes closed and cover your mouth to avoid inhalation of any harmful gases.

•             DROP AND ROLL: In case your clothes catch fire, drop on the ground. Cover your face and mouth and keep eyes closed to avoid any serious injuries, then roll on the ground back and forth to repress the fire.
